COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After discussing a proposed collective bargaining agreement in closed session for nearly an hour on Monday night, the Coldwater City Council came back into open session and voted 9-0 to turn down a three year labor agreement with the Police Officers Labor Council which represents the Coldwater Police Department’s Lieutenant and Sergeant employees.
There were no comments in the open session as to why the agreement was turned down by the Council.
The previous agreement between the city and the union expired on June 30, 2020.
The union had already approved the new agreement which would have gone through 2023.
The proposed agreement would have included increased wages in all three years for union members.
City Manager Keith Baker says negotiations will continue with the union in hopes a mutually agreeable contract can be reached.
