COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Centreville man has been charged with trying to coerce the alleged victim of a Branch County crime to not cooperate with a criminal prosecution.
31-year-old Joseph Jerrell Johnson is facing a felony count of Conspiracy to Commit Obstruction of Justice. His district court arraignment took place on Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on December 8.
Johnson’s arrest is in connection with the case involving 28-year-old Travis McCann which is currently before Branch County Circuit Court. McCann is facing assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm and aggravated stalking charges.
The Michigan State Police say he allegedly fired a weapon in the 900 block of West Colon Road at around midnight on November 11 following a confrontation with the alleged female victim. No injuries were reported and McCann was arrested a short time later in LaGrange County, Indiana on unrelated charges.
McCann had his $100,000 bond revoked when it was determined he tried to contact the alleged victim through a third party which violated one of the terms of his bond.
Prosecutors claim Johnson, McCann and another person tried to coerce the alleged female victim in the McCann case.
A probable cause hearing for Johnson has been scheduled for February 25 with a preliminary exam set for March 3.
