COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals almost let a 15 point fourth quarter lead slip away Tuesday night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium but they managed to hold on and defeat the Marshall Redhawks 63-56 as they improved to 3-0.
It look like Coldwater had things well in hand early in the final quarter when they led 53-38. But Marshall ran off 13 straight points to get to within 55-54 with less than two minutes to go and had a chance to take the lead.
But Coldwater tightened up defensively and three straight baskets by Spencer Rodesiler gave the Cardinals enough breathing room to hold on for the win.
Brandon Downs led the Cardinals with 22 points while Rodesiler finished with 21 points. Evan Sloan and Downs both grabbed five rebounds. Brock Thornton and Rodesiler both had three assists. Thornton had five steals.

Coldwater also won the freshman game 31-30 over Marshall thanks a foul shot by Jack Ruden with five seconds left. Tyson Roby led Coldwater with eight points.
