COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Officials at the Coach Floyd Eby Youth and Family Center say they are grateful for the abundant community support they got while they operated an Emergency Warming Center over the last couple of weeks.
The Emergency Warming Center opened its doors on Saturday, February 6 as temperatures started to nosedive after a relatively mild winter up to that point.
The original plan was to open the center for five days but the weather dictated that it stay open longer.
Melissa Austin from the Coach Eby Center said they were open for 10 full days and averaged 10 guests per night.
Volunteers worked around the clock as warmth, food and a safe place to be was provided for those who needed it.
There were also numerous donations of food through gift cards and COVID-19 protocols were also in place.
Austin says they were able to find temporary and alternative housing for all of their guests who made themselves available to it on Wednesday and that no one was ‘left out in the cold.’
