LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – No time is really ever the right time for an overhaul, but for the Michigan Secretary of State’s office, it’s apparently no time like the present for upgrading its technology.
Starting at 5 p.m. this Thursday, March 11th, Secretary of State branch offices, self-services stations and online services will be down through 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16th. During this 112-hour period, what the department is calling “a major technology upgrade” will “securely combine tens of millions of driver and vehicle records into one integrated customer record system,” moving “the department forward from decades-old technology. Starting March 16, the upgrade will enable new online services for customers and expand the capability of self-service stations to include many driver’s license and state ID transactions.”
The Michigan Voter Information Center operated by the Secretary of State’s office will not be impacted, and online voter registration and other services will continue to be available.
