COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater lost for just the second time in the 2021 season, dropping a 54-44 non-conference decision to Grand Ledge Saturday afternoon at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Comets jumped out to a 13-9 first quarter lead and outscored the Cardinals 11-4 in the second to take a 24-13 halftime lead. Grand Ledge held a 12-10 edge in the third quarter, but in the midst of a furious comeback attempt, the Cardinals outscored their guests 21-18 in the final frame.
Ethan Crabtree led Coldwater with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, while Spencer Rodesiler had 11 points and 3 steals. Nate Tappenden came off the bench to contribute 7 points and 6 boards; he played substantial minutes after leading scorer Brandon Downs left the game midway through the first quarter with lower back soreness.
The Cardinals drop to 12-2 overall and travel to Pennfield Tuesday night in a battle for first place in the Interstate 8.
David Rivera led all scorers with 15 points for Grand Ledge, who improve to 4-4.
