ANN ARBOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The University of Michigan will be a one seed in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Wolverines lost to Ohio State 68-67 in Saturday’s Big Ten Tournament semifinals. They will play this Saturday against the winner of Thursday’s First Four matchup between Mount St. Mary’s and Texas Southern.
Gonzaga will be the top overall seed for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Bulldogs are unbeaten this season at 26-and-0. Baylor, Illinois, and Michigan have been assigned the other number-one seeds by the selection committee.
Michigan State University’s season is still alive. The Spartans are in the First Four and will face fellow 11 seed UCLA Thursday in West Lafayette for a spot in the NCAA Tournament main field. The winner will battle sixth-seeded BYU in the first round Saturday in Indianapolis.
While 68 teams learned their fate Sunday night, four teams are still waiting to hear if they could be invited to the Big Dance. Four replacement teams — Louisville, Colorado State, Saint Louis, and Ole Miss — were named as potential replacement teams for the NCAA Tournament should any team have to drop out due to the coronavirus by 6:00 p.m. Eastern Tuesday.
The Cardinals will have first dibs, then the Rams, then the Billikens, and then the Rebels. There will be no re-seeding if a team is forced to withdraw.
