TAMPA, FL (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers used the long ball to beat the New York Yankees 5-2 yesterday in Tampa, Florida. Akil Baddoo hit a two-run homer and Miguel Cabrera smashed a three-run shot in the win.
The Tigers wrap up Grapefruit League play this afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Tigers pitching coach Chris Fetter will miss Thursday’s season opener against the Cleveland Indians due to COVID-19. Fetter tested positive for the virus on Sunday night and the team is waiting for contract tracing to see who will replace him on Thursday. He will still be able to take part in virtual meetings and plan pitching assignments.
Fetter was hired in the offseason from the University of Michigan.
