MUSKEGON, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Dozens of Muskegon residents are calling for a county commissioner to resign over social media posts they say had racist dialogue.
WOOD-TV says Commissioner Zach Lahring was grilled during public comment at a meeting Tuesday as well as from some colleagues. Others defended the commissioner, saying the posts aren’t racist and that everyone has the right to express their opinion.
In one of the posts, Lahring referenced a bowling event for a Black Lives Matter fundraiser. In it, he said, “You get to use colored balls to knock over redneck white pins.”
WOOD-TV spoke to Lahring who said he thinks those offended are “a bunch of snowflakes projecting their own racism onto the post”. He says he doesn’t believe there was anything racist about the posts.
