DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Tigers open the 2021 season against the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park this afternoon. Matthew Boyd gets the start for Detroit against Cleveland’s Shane Bieber. For the first time since the end of the 2019 season, a limited number of fans will be allowed in Comerica Park. The stadium will be at 20 percent capacity meaning approximately 8,200 tickets will be sold.
Meanwhile, Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera could reach a couple of milestones this season. Cabrera ended the shortened 2020 season needing just 13 home runs to reach 500 in his career. He also is 134 hits shy of reaching the three-thousand mark. Cabrera will be the seventh player in MLB history to collect 500 home runs and 3000 hits If he can surpass both milestones this year.
