HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — April is Distracted-Driving Awareness Month and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reminding people that between 2012 and 1029 more than 26,000 people died in crashes involving a distracted driver.
The two man causes, NHTSA officials say, are texting while driving or scrolling through social media while driving. It’s illegal in Michigan do to that.
Michigan State Police remind people that If you are expecting a text message or need to send one, pull over and park your car in a safe location. Once you are safely off the road and parked, it is safe to text.
Ask your passenger to be your “designated texter.” Allow them access to your phone to respond to calls or messages.
Do not engage in social media scrolling or messaging while driving.
You can also activate your phone’s “Do Not Disturb” feature while you’re behind the wheel.
