ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One of the four victims from Saturday morning’s mass shooting at the Enclave Apartments in Allendale Township has been released from the hospital, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett. The three others remain hospitalized, he indicated in an email to media just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police described all four shooting survivors as men ranging in age from 18 to 22 years old.
He indicated detectives have received multiple Silent Observer tips and are investigating those, but are also finding lack of cooperation among those involved interviewed so far.
Bennett told WHTC there are no suspects in custody at this time and police are urging people to share what they know via Silent Observer.
“The armed suspect is still at large so I would say there is a level of concern for public safety,” he wrote in an email Saturday afternoon
Police are looking for a suspect, described as male, Hispanic, 6 feet tall, weighing about 225 pounds, last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and a baseball cap.
None of the victims are Grand Valley State University students, he said, but GVSU police assisted at the scene, and GVSU issued a campus-safety alert because the incident happened close to campus.
Deputies were called to the scene just after midnight Saturday morning near apartments in the 4900 block of Becker Drive. They found three victims, all of whom were rushed by Life EMS ambulance to a Grand Rapids hospital, Bennett said in an emailed statement.
A fourth victim independently traveled to the Grand Rapids hospital, Bennett said.
One of those shot is in critical condition, Bennett said. Sheriff’s detectives and deputies are investigating how the altercation developed that led to the shooting.
