KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo police are investigating a local bar after accusations from several women about receiving drinks spiked with drugs.
The investigations stem from videos posted on the social media platform TikTok by Grace Van Overberge, who says she was at the Y Bar near Western Michigan University on Monday with a group of friends. In one of the videos, which WOOD-TV posted on their website, Grace spoke about frustrations with the initial response by police. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says it is investigating and taking the matter seriously.
Officers say since videos were posted, several people have come forward saying they have had similar experiences at that bar. Grace says she and her friends tested positive for various drugs when they sought medical treatment.
“There were positive tests for methadone, BZO which is like a tranquilizer, Xanax, and then opioids in our system. Yea, it’s pretty scary.”
The owner of the Y Bar has denied the allegations. Meanwhile, police are asking anyone else with information or who may have had experiences like this at that bar to come forward as they continue to investigate.
