DALLAS, TX (WKZO AM/FM) – The Dallas Stars got a vital extra point in a 3-2 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings Monday night.
Denis Gurianov scored in the fifth round of the shootout to give the defending Western Conference champions the win. Roope Hintz and rookie Jason Robertson each scored in regulation for the Stars. Anton Khudobin stopped 20 shots plus four-of-five shootout attempts in the victory.
The win moved the Stars to fifth place in the Central Division with 48 points, one ahead of Chicago, with only 12 regular-season games left.
Luke Glendening scored twice for Detroit in defeat. Dylan Larkin had the only goal for Detroit in the shootout. The Wings and Stars wrap up a two-game set in Dallas tonight.
San Jose’s Patrick Marleau has broken Red Wings great Gordie Howe’s record of the most games played in the NHL. Marleau appeared in his 1,768th career game last night when the Sharks faced off against the Vegas Golden Knights. The 41-year old has played 21 of his 23 seasons with San Jose.
Howe played his final NHL game against the Red Wings as a member of the Hartford Whalers in April 1980.
