Dunn Lee Marteen, Sr., 80 of Coldwater passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at his home.
In following his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned at this time. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Dunn was born September 5, 1940 to Merle (Cable) Marteen in McClain County, OK. After graduation from high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Marines. While in the service he met his future wife, Julie Landis. They married December 23, 1961 in Las Vegas. Dunn was an exceptional football player, playing at Santa Anna Junior College and then at Los Angeles State where he was named to the “Little All-American Team”. He is also in the “Hall of Fame” for both schools. Dunn also played two years in the Canadian Football League and two additional years in Semi-Pro football in the states. He was a hardworking man after football. He was the manager of the Commercial Inn and then was the dock supervisor at ATL Trucking for 25 years. Dunn worked a few years at the Oldsmobile Scramble and then became part owner of the Commercial Inn before retiring.
Dunn had many interests, but mostly enjoyed playing, umpiring, or attending sporting events. He spent many years umpiring baseball and softball. Dunn was well known for his card tricks. He also volunteered his time with Coldwater High School sports helping in many capacities. Dunn will be remembered for being friendly to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Dunn is survived by his wife of 59 years, Julie Marteen of Coldwater; his sons Dunn Marteen, Jr. of Marietta, GA, Lance (Cheri) Marteen of Angola, IN, twins Brian (Lorri) Marteen and Bruce Marteen all of Coldwater; his brother Don Adkins of Lakewood, CO; his sister Kathryn Young of Tulsa, OH; his grandchildren Cameron, MaeAnna, Luke, Miranda, and McKenna Marteen; many nieces & nephews; and several good friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Merle Marteen Vaughn; his brother Dana Adkins; and his sister-in-law Dona Adkins.
