BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy knocked off visiting Reading in a pair of five-inning decisions, 10-0 and 19-6. Bradley Harper threw a complete game shutout in the opener, allowing 6 hits and no walks with 3 strikeouts. Corbin Bethel and Karsen Maurer each scored 2 runs. The nightcap featured an 11-run barrage in the second for the Orioles, while also drawing a total of 7 walks in the frame and 11 total. Harper had a single and a double and drove in 3 as Quincy improved to 3-4 overall, 2-2 in the Big 8.
Bronson improved to 5-6 overall, 4-0 in the Big 8 thanks to a doubleheader sweep against Concord, 12-5 and 6-3. In the first game, Blaine Robinson had two singles and a triple, while winning pitcher Reagan Mayer had 7 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Robinson got the win on in the nightcap with 5 K’s in 6-1/3 innings; he and Mayer had 2 hits apiece.
Union City swept a non-conference doubleheader against Leslie by scores of 5-2 and 5-4. Connor Elgan was the winning pitcher in the opener, with 4 strikeouts in 4 innings of work; Logan Bailey threw 3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the save. Wade Hoffman had 2 hits, while Tyler Wagley drove in 2 runs. Owen Jackson won the nightcap in relief of Wagley. The Chargers improved to 4-2.
