DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Danny Duffy and three relievers combined on a five-hitter as the Kansas City Royals shut out the Detroit Tigers 4-0 Sunday afternoon.
Duffy struck out eight while allowing four hits and no walks over five innings to move to 3-and-1. Hunter Dozier homered and Carlos Santana singled in two as KC won its fourth in-a-row.
Tarik Skubal took the loss in relief for Detroit, which has lost four in-a-row and nine of its last 10 games. Jeimer Candelario had two hits as the Tigers were held to five singles.
Detroit has dropped the first three in the series and nine of its last 10.
The Tigers wrap up their four-game series with the Royals this afternoon at Comerica Park. Spencer Turnbull gets the start for Detroit, while Kansas City counters with Brad Keller. After today, the Tigers open a nine-game road trip against the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox.
