COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School Board of Education gave the district permission on Monday night to move forward with installing a new heating and cooling system in Jefferson Elementary School as well as a new cooling system in the Legg Middle School gymnasium.
The projects will be paid for through the remaining 2018 bond funds as well as through sinking funds.
It was reported during Monday’s meeting that the district has about $2 million available to spend on additional projects that can be completed in the district.
Even though the Michigan Department of Treasury estimated the district would be able to make over $298,000 in interest on construction funds, at this time it’s estimated the district has earned over $1.6 million.
The district also has over $700,000 in unused contingency funds.
It’s estimated the work at Jefferson Elementary will cost just under $1.9 million while the Legg Middle School project will cost over $892,000.
The design process is expected to take place this summer with construction scheduled for the summer of 2022.
In a related action, the school board approved contracts with Tower Pinkster to perform architectural work on the two projects.
