COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission approved special use permit requests on three marijuana related items during Monday night’s meeting.
The one which resulted in a nearly hour long discussion came from Yuma Way of Colorado as they were seeking a Special Land Use Permit which was needed to establish a proposed Recreational Marijuana Grow operation at 127 Industrial Avenue.
That request drew negative responses from a pair of nearby businesses.
Putnam Machine Products President and General Manager Rob Putnam felt the grow facility will give off a “horrible smell” and that his business will be forced to relocate should the marijuana grow facility’s smell not be mitigated.
Fox Factory-Sport Truck USA General Manager John Slagle felt an operation of this magnitude will have a seriously negative impact on Coldwater and its surrounding townships.
Yuma Way included two letters of reference which stated they implemented an odor control plan for their facility in Denver and that they have complied with all local and state regulations.
Licensee and owner Kirill Merkulov said they had three types of controls.
The City of Coldwater’s zoning codes have numerous requirements marijuana grow operations must follow to control and eliminate odors.
In making his motion for approval, Planning Commission member Dave Rumsey urged city staff to make sure they are followed.
The Planning Commission also approved a Special Use Permit for Galenas Michigan, LLC as they hope to operate an Adult Use Recreational Marijuana Processing Establishment and an accessory Retail Establishment from the vacant property at 290 Butters Avenue.
Another Special Use Permit was approved for Northeast Alternatives, Inc. of Fall River, Massachusetts as they plan to operate an Adult Use Recreational Marijuana Retail Establishment from the western most suite of the commercial strip development which was previously occupied by Radio Shack.

Sure they will enforce it. I mean we never smell Darling or the water treatment plant right?
