BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) — A Calhoun County man who is accused of brutally killing a puppy in January has been ordered to stand trial.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports the case involving 22-year-old Erik Paul Taylor of Athens was bound over to Calhoun County Circuit Court on Monday following a preliminary examination.
Taylor has been charged with killing his sister-in-law’s 5-month-old puppy with a chainsaw on January 23rd.
The sister-in-law was among those who testified on Monday.
She earlier told the Battle Creek Enquirer that a different family member was supposed to watch the dog while her and her husband visited friends that day, but the family member ended up leaving the dog in Taylor’s care. Two weeks earlier, he apparently had made comments saying the dog was possessed and should be killed.
Taylor faces up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted.
