LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Money aimed to give a boost for those seeking higher education while working in the agricultural industry in Michigan is on the way.
$500,000 in USDA grant money is being targeted at developing Michigan agriculture technology education and career pathways for migrant and seasonal farmworkers. Director Stephanie Beckhorn with the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity says workers will be able to participate in experimental learning and obtain high school and college credit while earning industry-recognized credentials.
Expanding education and training opportunities for migrant and seasonal farmworkers is in sync with Michigan’s sixty by 30 goal of increasing the number of working-age adults with a skill certificate to 60 percent by 2030.
