COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals won their 20th game of the season on Wednesday night as they split a non-conference doubleheader with Battle Creek Lakeview at Pat Lowe Field. Lakeview won the opener 17-2 but Coldwater came back to take the nightcap 8-7 in eight innings.
The Spartan victory in the first game ended the Cardinals nine game winning streak. The Cardinals got their runs on a Brynden Massey RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Aiden Marsden.
The second game was more competitive as the lead exchanged hands five times. Carter Bordner tied the score at 7-7 with a two out RBI single in the last of the seventh. The Cardinals took advantage of a couple of Lakeview errors to pull out the victory in the last of the eighth. Joe Closson scored the winning run as Logan Farmer reached base on a two out error. Nate Tappenden was credited with the win as he struck out three in four innings of work. Massey had three hits including a double and a homer. Tappenden had three hits including two doubles. Massey and Tappenden both drove in two runs.
The Cardinals are now 20-6 and will play at Portage Central on Saturday.
