OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater woman escaped serious injury Saturday morning when her small SUV struck a tree on Quimby Road north of Kern Road in Ovid Township.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened at about 11:15 a.m. after 31-year-old Courtney Brewer reached back to give her properly restrained toddler an item.
In doing so, she lost control of the vehicle. It then went off the road and crashed into a tree.
Brewer suffered minor injuries as the Sheriff’s Department says she was belted in and air bags deployed.
Deputies and Life Care Ambulance assessed the toddler riding in the back seat area for potential injuries.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says deputies have responded to a sharp increase in accidents in the last few weeks with many of the accidents being caused by various distractions. He says public safety is dependent on drivers’ choices to not allow distractions while operating a vehicle.
