COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School Board of Education approved a purchase agreement Monday night with Branch County for the purchase of the old Lakeland Elementary School building and land at 519 Otis Road in Ovid Township which will be used for the location of a 911 tower.
The tower is one of five that are being installed as part of a $9.3 million Branch County 911 project which is designed to improve communications between various emergency, police and fire agencies in the county.
The other towers will be in Union City, Bronson, Quincy and at the new Branch County Jail.
The school district and the county agreed to a purchase price of $150,000 with the closing scheduled for June 15. The county would have the right to have limited use of the property if the closing is delayed beyond that date.
The limited use agreement would allow the county to build a concrete pad on the property to support a radio tower, subject to the necessary insurance.
The resolution passed by the Board Monday gave Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan authorization to sign the purchase agreement.
The sale is contingent upon the county completing its due diligence in regards to testing, inspections and other matters.

Is this for the school and all of the land or just a chunk of land like 5 acres or so?
The school should buy text books for the students with the money if they aren’t going to put it on the principle of the new school loan.
