DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — As Memorial Day weekend approaches, gas prices will be at their highest in seven years for the holiday, according to AAA.
Some gas stations have already hiked prices to over $3.00 a gallon for regular unleaded. The prices could go even higher as over 1 million people, nearly 60% more than last year, are expected to travel.
Gas prices are over $1.00 more than they were this time last year when demand was low due to various pandemic restrictions. But the prices are more comparable to Memorial Day weekend in 2019. The current state average of $2.95 a gallon is only about 12 cents higher than it was two years ago.
