BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson Fire Department officials are hoping a video from Rhino Media of Kalamazoo will help them with recruiting efforts.
Fire Chief Scott Wilber says the three-minute promotion video draws on storytelling to promote public service and private organizations. He says the company’s staff visited Bronson three times to immerse in the world of the firefighters as they trained, studied, and responded to calls.
The crew collected hours of film, including interviews with firefighters who explained why they serve.
Wilber says in the opening scenes, “You can be part of something bigger than yourself. You can make a difference. You can support your community and you can be part of a second family.”
Wilber says no taxpayer funds were used to pay for Rhino’s services. The firm produced the video at no cost to the department as a way of testing a new marketing division geared toward recruiting firefighters.
An aging workforce and an increasing demand for services has led to fewer fire positions being filled.
Wilber says, “We need new ways to reach potential volunteers. We need to reach young men and women and explain the value of serving in ways that make sense to them.”
