COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Prosecutors have charged a third person in connection with the alleged theft of catalytic converters in Matteson Township between November 1 and December 23 of last year.
32-year-old Amber Marie Carpenter of Three Rivers was arraigned on Wednesday in Branch County District Court on three counts of larceny from a motor vehicle. Prosecutors also filed an habitual offender sentencing enhancer if she is convicted of the alleged crimes. According to court documents, Carpenter has a criminal record that dates back to 2009.
Carpenter’s bond was set at $25,000. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for next Thursday with a preliminary examination scheduled for June 10.
39-year-old Alexander Zuchnik of Three Rivers is also facing three larceny charges in connection with the alleged thefts. An habitual offender sentencing enhancer was also filed by prosecutors.
The third defendant in the case, 57-year-old Richard Allen Caudill of Angola, Indiana, has been charged with buying and selling stolen scrap metal and a misdemeanor count of violating the state’s scrap metal regulatory act by not keeping proper records at his Bronson business on South Matteson Lake Road.
Authorities say all three of the alleged thefts took place from two vehicles at the same location on North Matteson Lake Road.
The arrests took place following a Michigan State Police investigation.
