COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As of Friday, Val White is no longer the Branch County Chief Assistant Prosecutor.
Branch County Prosecutor Zack Stempien said on Friday afternoon that White has been “relieved of her duties.” He declined to offer a reason behind the decision to let White go.
Stempien said White’s case load will be split between Assistant Prosecutor Nora Geiger and himself for the time being and he hopes to fill the opening as soon as possible.
Stempien wanted White to stay on as his Chief Assistant when he took office on January 1.
White decided in April of 2020 not seek a full term in office as she had originally planned. She instead backed Stempien who was her Chief Assistant Prosecutor at the time.
Stempien defeated former Branch County Prosecutor Terri Norris in last August’s Republican Primary and was unopposed in the November 2020 general election.
White was appointed as Branch County Prosecuting Attorney in early 2019 to serve out the balance of Ralph Kimble’s term. He was forced to resign after sexual harassment complaints were made against him by female courthouse employees.
