COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Hunger does not take a summer vacation. Families with children who normally receive free or reduced-cost meals at school often turn to local food banks for assistance during the summer months.
The Branch County Association of REALTORS® (BCAR) recently held their annual “Stuff the Van” food drive to help with the increased demand.
Association members gathered at JT’s Billiard Bar and Grill in Coldwater to hear guest speaker Amy Taylor from Michigan Realtors® update them on real estate related legislative issues being discussed in Lansing. Coldwater Planning and Zoning Administrator Dean Walrack discussed how the new marijuana businesses are impacting Branch County and Branch County Treasurer Julie Waterbury provided contact information to help home-owners in danger of foreclosure.
BCAR Members were asked to bring non-perishable food item or cash donations. Members filled four vans full of food and donated $1,135 which was delivered to food pantries in Quincy, Union City, Bronson and Coldwater.
The event was sponsored by GreenStone Farm Credit Services.
