CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Officials for the Michigan Department of Transportation says the halfway point is being approached for this years work as crews continue to rebuild I-69 from north of Ainger Road in Calhoun County to Island Highway in Eaton County.
In their latest update on the project, MDOT says they are anticipating the completion of the northbound I-69 lanes this month and then will immediately switch to rebuilding the southbound lanes.
Both northbound and southbound I-69 will be rebuilt this year, including the interchange ramps at Cochran Road and M-50.
Drivers along that stretch of I-69 should be aware of lane closures and detours during the project.
MDOT is investing $210 million to rebuild I-69 from south of I-94 in Marshall to Island Highway in Charlotte as part of Governor Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan program.
It includes the rebuilding of 25 miles of I-69.
Also being rebuilt are six interchanges and the 15 Mile Road bridge over I-94 while 26 bridges will be repaired. There will also be drainage and safety improvements.
In addition, crews will repave the Turkeyville Rest Area and carpool lot, as well as the Potterville Rest Area. The project will continue through 2023.
