LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State Republicans are asking state auditors to look into the number of COVID-19 deaths at nursing homes.
Some lawmakers have questioned the number being reported, saying that it may be lower than the actual death toll.
Governor Whitmer has maintained that she acted within the federal guidelines that allowed hospitalized coronavirus patients who had been released and no longer needed to live in a nursing home to return there, to lessen the burden on hospitals.
State health officials agreed with the Governor, stating that those were the directives the state was operating under.
The audit is expected to be completed in September or October of this year.
