KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Four occupants of a vehicle were injured Friday afternoon in a rollover accident on northbound I-69 north of Copeland Road.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened at 3:12 p.m. as 44-year-old Jason Lee of Grantsburg, Wisconsin and six members of his family were in a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban that was pulling a 30-foot dual axle camper trailer.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says Lee began to pass a semi-truck in the area when the trailer began to sway back and forth.
Lee lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and into the median causing the vehicle to roll over onto its top.
Lee was taken by Life-Care Ambulance, to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital due to visible head injuries. In addition, a 44 year old female passenger was also taken by Life-Care Ambulance to Promedica due to possible head injuries.
Two teenage boys ages 17 and 18 suffered minor cuts. The remaining passengers suffered no visible injuries. All occupants were wearing their seat belts and airbags were deployed in the vehicle.
Prior to the accident, a witness noticed the camper was missing a tire and rim on the driver’s side rear axle which is believed to have contributed to the crash.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Life-Care Ambulance, the Lakeland Fire Department and Branch County Victim Services.
