UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – It took longer than expected but a permanent fix to Union City’s electrical issues was performed on Saturday as crews worked in hot and sweltering conditions.
The power was turned off in Union City Saturday morning in order to make permanent repairs following Tuesday’s nine hour power outage when an electrical explosion inside the village’s DPW/Electric building took out the main switch gear for the Village’s electrical system.
The planned power outage was scheduled to last at least five hours but crews wound up working nearly 13 hours.
Union City Village Manager and Police Chief Chris Mathis posted on Facebook just before 10:00 p.m. “The work is completed and repaired!”
Coldwater Road between Creamery Road and Broadway Street was shut down and residents were told to stay away as crews performed their work and replaced systems that were nearly 100 years old.
