DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Miguel Cabrera launched the 498th home run of his career into the Detroit sky as the Tigers took care of the Red Sox 4-2 at home. Cabrera is now just two home runs shy of 500 for his career. Kyle Funkhouser added the win in relief for the Tigers while Gregory Soto notched the save. Hunter Renfroe homered for the Red Sox.
Garrett Richards allowed three runs over four innings to take the loss. Boston has lost five straight.
Cabrera also connected for his 2,944th career hit in the win.
Detroit sends Casey Mize to the mound tonight while Eduardo Rodriguez gets the start for Boston.
Meanwhile, Tigers infielder Isaac Paredes has been taken out of his rehab assignment after aggravating his right hip strain. Outfielder Daz Cameron could start a stint with Triple-A Toledo within the week as he works his way back from a foot injury.
Infielder Niko Goodrum has been with the Mud Hens since July 31st with a left calf issue and could return to Detroit soon.
