DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two was better than one in the fifth inning for the Red Sox as they took down the Tigers 4-1 in Detroit. Enrique Hernandez and Jarren Duran hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth to power Boston. Former Tiger J.D. Martinez also went yard for the Red Sox. Eduardo Rodriguez struck out 10 over five scoreless innings for Boston, which snapped a five-game slide.
Jonathan Schoop homered for the Tigers. Casey Mize surrendered four runs over five innings to take the loss. Detroit has lost three of five.
In this afternoon’s rubber match, Tarik Skubal gets the start for the Tigers and the Red Sox send Martin Perez to the hill.
In other news, the Tigers begin the 2022 season against the Mariners in Seattle on March 31st. MLB released the schedule for all 30 teams yesterday. Detroit will open play at Comerica Park on April 8th when they host the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers end the 2022 campaign at home against the Minnesota Twins on October 2nd.
