CUSTER, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An elderly man was rescued in a remote area of West Michigan last week nearly 11 hours after falling from a tree. The Michigan DNR says one of their conservation officers made the rescue on Tuesday, August 3 in a wooded area near Custer, northwest of Grand Rapids.
The 75-year-old man was able to call 9-1-1 before his phone lost reception. The responding officer found the man’s truck and then followed a set of footprints. He had apparently fallen almost thirty feet from an Oak tree where he was preparing a stand for the upcoming hunting season.
He was airlifted to a hospital due to various injuries sustained when he fell. His current condition was not made available.
