BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Yet another round of severe storms pounded the area on Wednesday afternoon leaving behind downed power lines and trees.
The latest round of stormy weather to hit Branch County comes on the heels of last Friday night’s storms in the Quincy and Marble Lake area which knocked out power for some residents for up to two days.
Storms with reported wind gusts of 60 miles an hour led to Branch County and the surrounding area being placed under a severe thunderstorm warning by the National Weather Service at about 1:40 p.m..
At 1:55 p.m., the Branch County Memorial Airport recorded a wind gust of 48 miles an hour.
Over 2,700 Consumers Energy customers in Branch County were without power at 3:30 p.m. along with over 4,100 in St. Joseph County, over 1,500 in Hillsdale County and over 8,200 in Calhoun County.
Some of the Calhoun County outages were from Tuesday night’s strong storms.
In St. Joseph County, multiple large trees were blown down in Sturgis while trees and power lines were reported down in White Pigeon .
The strong winds caused a tent at the Branch County Fair to partially collapse. Some garbage cans on the fairgrounds were also blown over but no serious damage was reported.
The Coldwater Golf Course is closed until further notice due to a number of limbs and trees that have been knocked down.
The storm also packed some heavy rain. The M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm recorded 63-hundredths of an inch of between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m..
