DETROIT, MI (WKZO-AM/FM) – Detroit used a pinch-hit inside-the-park home run from Victor Reyes in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Toronto 2-1 in the opener of a three-game series at Comerica Park.
Reyes’s line drive got up the right-center field gap and rolled all the way to the wall. Third base coach Ramon Santiago sent home the speedy Reyes, who slid home ahead of the throw. According to MLB.com, no other player had hit a go-ahead inside-the-park homer in a pinch-hitting situation since the expansion era started in 1961.
Pitcher Jose Cisnero got the win in relief, while Gregory Soto picked up his 16th save.
Tonight’s pitching patchup features Jose Urena for the Tigers going up against the Blue Jays’ Alek Manoah.
