ALLEN PARK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tim Boyle is expected to miss the beginning of the season for the Detroit Lions after breaking his right thumb in Detroit’s preseason finale Friday.
The third-year quarterback had surgery yesterday. Boyle was the favorite to win the backup quarterback job behind Jared Goff before the injury. Dan Campbell said he doesn’t expect the break to end Boyle’s season, but wasn’t willing to make that claim definitively.
David Blough will likely begin the season as Goff’s backup. Detroit hosts San Francisco in the season opener September 12.
