COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man who was sent to prison this week after violating terms of his probation is facing more legal challenges.
22-year-old Tyler Wesley Chehowski has been charged by Branch County Prosecutors in connection with an alleged incident in the summer of 2019 with a girl who was 15-years-old at the time.
Chehowski was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct as well as two counts of third degree C.S.C. and a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
In a separate case, he has been charged with being in possession of a weapon while he was in the Branch County Jail.
Bond in the two cases totals $101,000. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for next Thursday with a preliminary exam set for September 14.
Chehowski was ordered to serve between 17 months and five years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after entering a no contest plea to violating his probation.
He was given credit for 301 days already served in the Branch County Jail.
Chehowski was arrested by Coldwater Police in May of 2020 following an incident with a female acquaintance and was placed on 18 months of probation last October for attempted assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder.
Chehowski was then arrested last January by Coldwater Police on a charge of first degree criminal sexual conduct following an alleged May 2019 incident involving a then 12-year-old girl. He later entered a no contest plea to second degree criminal sexual conduct in that case. A sentencing hearing on the second degree C.S.C. count was scheduled for this past Monday but it had to be rescheduled due to the new legal allegations against Chehowski.
