LOWELL TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Investigators in Kent County say a 3-year-old child and his father are dead in a murder-suicide.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Lowell Township Wednesday evening for a welfare check. 32-year-old Derek Thebo and 3-year-old Dylan Thebo were both found deceased inside the residence from apparent gunshot wounds.
Autopsies conducted on Thursday determined that Dylan’s death was a homicide and that Derek’s death was from suicide. Before the discovery, family members had reached out saying they hadn’t heard from the two in a few days.
The Kent County Sheriff’s office said they are still investigating the case and that they are making victim advocates available to the family. Court records show the 3-year-old’s mother had a personal protection order against Derek Thebo earlier this year.
