PARCHMENT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Local artist Murphy Darden has loaned his model New York Twin Towers to the exhibit September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World, currently on display through September 30 at the Parchment Community Library.
Darden completed his model in 2005, but the idea began on September 11, 2001 when he heard that the World Trade Center towers had been attacked.
He created the model from cardboard and lightweight wood. He says the model is a work of love: “
When I’m doing it, I think of all the buildings, how tall it was, and the people that got crushed in it or burned up or whatever in it, and all the families that lost a loved one”, said Darden.
He hopes the model will help the next generation learn about the history of the towers.
“The Parchment Community Library is honored to display New York Twin Towers. We’re grateful to Mr. Darden for contributing his model to our exhibit,” said Library Ambassador Karen Woodworth.
The exhibit will remain on display on the main floor of the Parchment Community Library at 401 South Riverview Drive, up until September 30.
The library itself will be open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 1 pm.
