UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s Society for Historic Preservation (SHP) will be hosting another Riverside Memories Tour at Riverside Cemetery in Union City this Saturday.
Tours are scheduled take place at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.. Participants are asked to arrive a few minutes early.
Pre-sale tickets may be purchased for $10 through Eventbrite or by sending a check to the SHP, c/o Hammond House Museum, 210 Charlotte Street, Union City, MI 49094 (write “Cemetery Tour” on the memo line).
Tickets may also be purchased for $12 at Riverside Cemetery the day of the event. There is no charge for youth 14 and under who are accompanied by an adult.
This will be the tenth year for the presentations and according to SHP President Bobbie Mathis, the organization has put together another educational and entertaining line-up of depictions of departed residents of the village of Union City (formerly known as Goodwinsville).
The following actors will be featured on the September 18 tour:
Bob Collins as Silas Nye, inventor of the chilled plow
Steve Watson as John Zimmerman, local blacksmith and station master of the Union City Underground Railroad stop
Kristy Smith as John Palmer, violinist and creator of the baggage check system that’s still in use today
Branch County Sheriff John Pollack and his wife, Billie as Bert and Nellie Cline, former Branch County Sheriff and his wife, who lived to be 111 years old
Jason Counterman as Paul Smeltzer, beloved teacher and wrestling coach who made a huge impact on the local youth and wrestling program
Chrissy Bigelow and Greg Hull as Erma and Lynn Bartlett, outstanding Union City educators with interesting backgrounds, accomplishments and hobbies.
Golf carts will be allowed in the cemetery.
