Wilferd Harvey Cole, Jr., 60, of Burlington, passed away at home Saturday, September 18, 2021 under the care of Heartland Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City. Visitation will be held just prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021, also at Lighthouse.
Wilferd was born September 11, 1961 in Marshall, Michigan to Wilferd H. and Janette (Beard) Cole. He grew up in Burlington and attended Union City Community Schools. From the late1980s-2013, he resided in Lebanon, MO and worked there as a welder for Detroit Tool. Upon returning to Burlington in 2013, Wilferd worked for Jack Cooper Transport as a car hauler until 2020. He drove semi both in Michigan and Missouri.
The outdoors was Wilferd’s favorite place to be, especially camping, fishing and kayaking with his family and friends. He enjoyed cooking outside and was “the grillmaster.” He had a big heart and helped others when needed.
Wilferd is survived by his mother, Janette Cole of Battle Creek; his children, Amanda (Bill) Gunderson of Lebanon, MO, Nicki (Jesse) Lawson of Manes, MO and Wilferd “Willie” (Taylor Blakenship) of Lebanon, MO; special friend and former wife, Karen Herman of Burlington; former step-children, Michael (Elizabeth) Baumgardner of Sherwood, Matthew (Shonda) Baumgardner of Three Rivers, Brandy (Phillip) Eckert of Centreville, Candy (Michael) Lafontaine of Colon and Sarah (Joe Hursley) Inman of Colon; his brother, Scott Cole of Battle Creek; two half-sisters, LaVonn Cole of Union City and LeAnn (Adam) Pope of Hartford; step-mother, Erlene Clark of Union City; aunts, Judy Pluff of Battle Creek and Joann Macomber of Union City; five granddaughters; three grandsons; 17 step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
