COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team built an early 2-0 lead, then held on for a 3-2 win at home over Parma Western Thursday night, in a key Interstate 8 Conference match-up.
With the victory, the Cardinals keep pace for the conference lead at 3-0-1. Marshall leads the conference at 4-0-1, with Parma Western now falling to 3-2.
Mukhtar Abdulla opened the scoring just 3:19 into the game, assisted by Amine Mohammed. Mohammed then scored unassisted just over two minutes later for the early Coldwater lead.
Parma Western cut the lead to one with 20:04 to play in the first half, with the Cardinals getting their third goal with 13:38 to play in the first half from Mohammed, assisted by a throw-in from Joseph Closson.
The Panthers scored the final goal of the game with 20:36 to play in the second half, with the rest of the game remaining scoreless.
Bauston Feldbauer made two saves in goal, as Coldwater outshot Parma Western 17-7, improving their overall record to 7-4-2. They will host Hastings Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in another Interstate 8 Conference contest.
Last night’s varsity match-up became the cancer Purple Game for the Cardinals, after last week’s home contest with Hastings was postponed due to thunderstorms.
The Coldwater junior varsity team stayed undefeated on the season, beating Parma Western 8-0 Thursday. Laith Musa and Ezladeen Ahmed each had three goals, with one each from Abraham Campos and Rashed Ahmed.
The junior varsity team will host Okemos Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
