Emma Lou Evans, 75, of Coldwater passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2021 at Lockwood Community Church with Rev. Mike Arnold and Rev. Ron Evans officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Emma was born April 29, 1946 to Herald and Marie (Pancake) Whittenbargar in Decatur, IN. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of St. Francis in Indiana. Emma put her degree to good use, teaching mainly 5th grade at the Bluffton-Harrison Middle School for many years.
She married the love of her life, Ronald Evans on May 31, 1970 at Mount Victory Church in Decatur. Together they have created many fond memories.
Emma was a woman of strong faith, being a member of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ as well as Lockwood Community Church. She was a member of the Lakeland Fire Department and the Sweet Adeline’s of Coldwater. Emma enjoyed singing and playing the accordion. She was an avid gardener.
Emma always put the needs of her family first. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for being “mom” to many, as well as her loving and caring spirit.
Emma is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ron Evans; her children Jenny (Rob) Bonewitz of Huntington, IN, Anne (Jason) Hix of Canal Winchester, OH, and Sally Evans of Newark, OH; her brothers Orville (Becky) Whittenbargar of Convoy, OH and Bob (Barb) Whittenbargar of Van Wert, OH; her grandchildren Tyler (Whitney) Bonewitz, Roxanne (Tony) Diaz, Taylor Bonewitz, and Jacob Bonewitz; her great grandchildren Easton & Hayden Diaz, Piper Zettee, Cyrus Sanderson, Karsen & Joseph Bonewitz; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
