Elsie M. “Connie” Gentry, 80 of Sturgis passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Three Rivers Health.
A funeral service will take place at 12:00 Noon at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case of California Community Church officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Batavia Cemetery.
Elsie was born April 6, 1941 to Joseph and Ruth (Atkinson) Holding in Monroe, MI. On November 1, 1984 she married Rufus Gentry. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2000. Connie was a hardworking woman, working most of her life. Most recently she worked at Thurston Woods in Sturgis. Connie was involved with Foster Grandparents in both Coldwater and Sturgis for many years. She enjoyed mentoring and tutoring children. Connie enjoyed reading, sewing, and tending to her garden. She had a soft spot for animals, having many dogs and cats over her lifetime. Connie’s true joy in life was being around children. She will be
remembered as being a very dedicated and funny woman who was set in her ways. Connie will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Gentry is survived by her children Richard Mulligan, Terri Thorpe, Kathy Mulligan, and Connie (Rodney) Dudek; her grandchildren Sonja Enos, Michael Enos, Raymond Pifer, Kimberly Pifer, Jennifer Meringa, Shawna Pifer, Kristi Thorpe, and Michael Thorpe; 14 great grandchildren; her dog Max; her cats Jazzy, Sampson, and Goliath. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rufus Gentry; her son Joseph “JJ” Green; and her daughter Theresa Mulligan.
