CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Cass County police are investigating a single-vehicle accident that killed a driver and injured four passengers Friday evening, October 1.
It happened around 11:30 on Mason Street near the intersection of Gordon Road in Mason Township.
On scene, deputies found a 2004 Saturn Ion on it’s roof with multiple occupants inside.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Matthew Ray White of South Bend, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Passengers, 18-year-old Juliette Moore of Edwardsburg, 19-year-old Johnathan Leach of Cassopolis, 18-year-old Madison King of Edwardsburg, and 18-year-old Harli Grace Harvin of Edwardsburg were transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.
Investigators say that both speed and alcohol may have played a role in the accident.
