MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – After a scoreless game nearly the entire first half, the Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team ended up falling at Marshall 4-0 in the Interstate 8 Conference Gold Division Tournament final Thursday night.
After the two teams battled to a scoreless draw for the first 33 and half minutes, Marshall finally got on the scoreboard with 6:31 to play in the first half. The Cardinals then gave up three more goals off set pieces in a 12 minute span early in the second half for the loss.
Coldwater and Marshall shared the Interstate 8 Conference regular season title at 6-0-1 after the two teams played to a 3-3 tie last month.
Trevor Hensinger had seven saves in goal as the Redhawks outshot Coldwater 15-14.
The Cardinals finish the regular season at 11-6-2 and will host Parma Western Wednesday in a District quarterfinal match-up.
Marshall, now 16-2-1 and ranked eighth this week in the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division Two poll, has a bye in the opening round of the Coldwater district, and will face the winner of the Sturgis-Harper Creek quarterfinal.
The Coldwater junior varsity team completed its season undefeated, beating Marshall 5-1. Ezaldeen Ahmed scored two goals, with one each for Laith Musa, Ghaith Musa, and Abraham Campos.
