COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After being chosen by a three person committee last Friday to be the next Branch County Treasurer, Debra Bracy of Quincy decided to turn the job down.
The committee met again on Wednesday and turned to the other finalist who was interviewed. They offered the position to Steven Rutz of Coldwater and he accepted.
Since he was appointed, Rutz will have to wait for results from a drug test and a physical to come back before he can begin work in the Treasurer’s office.
Rutz will still able to maintain his seat on the Coldwater Community School Board of Education.
There were five applicants for the position which became open after Julie Waterbury resigned. Her resignation was effective on September 24 after she accepted a position as the Chief Financial Officer with Grand Ledge Community Schools.
Rutz was one of two candidates to finish behind Waterbury in the August 2020 Republican Primary,
The three person committee consisted of Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak, Prosecuting Attorney Zach Stempien and Probate Court Judge Kirk Kashian.
The Treasurer position will be on the Primary ballot in August 2022 and on the November General Election ballot for a two year term expiring December 31, 2024.
